Donald W. Bessette, 85, of Granby died on Friday, May 26 at Holyoke Medical Center. He was the husband of Dorothy (Slamon) Bessette, who passed away in 2015. Donald was born on November 20, 1931 at home in Willimansett, son of the late Armand and Irene (Masse) Bessette, and has been a Granby resident since 1963. He was a lithographer for the former National Blank Book Company in Holyoke, which then became Avery Dennison in Chicopee, for 43 years, retiring in 1992. Donald proudly served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War and he was a member of the American Legion and the Granby Council on Aging. Donald is survived by his son, Jeffrey Bessette and his wife Anita, of Putnam, CT, and two grandchildren, Emily and Alex. Besides his parents and wife, he was predeceased by a son Michael, and a sister Dorris Cote. Visitation will be held from 5-7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 30 at the Beers and Story South Hadley Funeral Home, 646 Newton St.. A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Wednesday, May 31 at 10:00 a.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Granby, please meet directly at the church. Burial will follow in West Cemetery. SOmersville Girl To Become Bride
Dorothy Slamons To Wed Donald W. Bessette
Miss Eva Butler of King St., Somersville, Conn., announces the engagement of her niece, Miss Dorothy T. Slamons, to Donald W. Bessette, son of Mr. and Mrs. Armand Bessette of Williamansett. The wedding is planned for Saturday morning, May 7, at 9, in All Saints Church, Somersville.
Miss Slamons attended Somerville and Rockville, Conn., schools and Bay Path Junior College. She is employed by Springfield chapter, American Red Cross.
Mr. Bessette attended local schools and served in the Korean conflict. He is employed by National Blank Book Co., Holyoke.
