Bernice 'Bernie' E. (Wilder) Bessette, age 88, passed away surrounded by her loving family on September 3, 2019. She was born in Springfield on January 29, 1931, daughter of the late Paul and Ethel (Sheriff) Wilder, and was a member of Foster Memorial Church in Springfield. Bernice was predeceased by her former husband of 30 years, Gordon H. Kinney, and her husband of 20 years, George L. Bessette. She leaves her children, Susan Makijczyk and her husband Stefan of Southbury, CT, G. Scott Kinney and his wife Sharon of Somers, CT, and Lynda Kinney of Springfield; her four loving grandchildren, Alexander and Ashley Kinney, and Kirsten and Karla Makijczyk. Bernie's impeccable fashion sense led her to working for many years in retail. She is remembered for entertaining family with her amazing cooking and rooting for her favorite Giants and Yankees teams. She enjoyed her Bridge club for many years and, mostly, her love of all genres of music and dancing, especially the jitterbug, swing and country two-step, will always keep her memory in our hearts. Bernie's love of family and friends led to many vacations in Lords Point, Stonington, CT, Cape Cod, MA, and many cherished memories of camping excursions with her grandchildren in Thousand Islands, NY. Appreciation is extended to the staff of the Lutheran Home of Southbury for their caring, kindness and friendship over the past six years as her illness progressed. Family and friends may gather at a Memorial Service to celebrate Bernie on Saturday, September 21, 2019 at 11 a.m. at Foster Memorial Church, 1791 Wilbraham Road, Springfield, MA, 01119. A private burial will be held through Sampson Funeral Home at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer?s Association in her honor.
