St. Luke?s Nurse, Navy Man Marry
Joan Bessette Is Bride of Mr. Hastings
White gladioli decorated Immaculate Conception Church in West Springfield Saturday morning at 10 for the wedding of Miss Joan Carol Bessette, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond L. Bessette of Day St., West Springfield, and Philips A. Hastings, son of Mrs. Philip W. Hastings of North West St., Feeding Hills, and the late Mr. Hastings.
The bride?s gown of silk organza was fashioned with a basque bodice appliqued with Chantilly lace embroidered with seed pearls, Sabrina neckline and short shirred sleeves. The bouffant skirt with bands of lace terminated in a chapel train and her veil of silk illusion was caught to a crown of seed pearls. She carried a prayer book trimmed with a cluster of white roses, carnations and streamers.
Miss Jean Marie Bessette was her sister?s maid of honor. Miss Sandra M. Rheaume of this city attended as bridesmaid. The honor attendant wore a street length dress of rose silk organza with bouffant skirt and a matching braid and pearl crown with circular veil. The bridesmaid was attired similarly in aqua silk organza and both carried baskets of assorted summer flowers.
David Hastings of West Springfield was his brother?s best man. Two other brothers, Robert Hastings of Torrington Conn., and Arhur Hastings of Feeding Hills, ushered, along with the bride?s cousin, Ronald Vanasse of Springfield.
The reception took place at the American Legion Home in West Springfield. The couple will make their home after Sept. 11, in Norfolk, Va., where Mr. Hastings is stationed board the USS Amphion. The bride travelled in a brown rayon dress with Puritan collar and beige accessories.
Mrs. Hastings is a graduate of Cathedral High School and St. Luke?s Hospital School of Nursing in Pittsfield. She was a staff nurse at that hospital.
Her husband, a graduate of Agawam High School, is in the U.S. Navy.
