Ernest Bessette August 20, 1932 - February 15, 2011 Lisbon - Ernest Bessette 78, of Lisbon beloved husband of 58 years of Genevieve (Surprenant) Bessette passed away Tuesday at W.W. Backus Hospital, Norwich. He was born August 20, 1932 in Plainfield a son of the late Ernest and Yvonne (Lavallee) Bessette and had resided in Lisbon for the past 25 years. He was employed by the former Norwich State Hospital for 25 years, retiring in 1984. Mr. Bessette was a member of Ponemah Council #34 K of C and a communicant of St. Augustine Church, Canterbury. He was the first Eagle Scout in the Plainfield Troop in 1948 and had also been awarded three Eagle Palms. Mr. Bessette was a man of many talents and virtues. He was an avid bird watcher, loved carpentry, working on his computer and had taught his grandchildren to play chess. Besides his wife he leaves two sons, Michael and Lona Bessette of Norwich, Brian Bessette and Dawn of Lisbon. two daughters and sons in law Sandra and Walter Thoma of Norwich, Suzzette and David Costanzo of Canterbury. A foster daughter Della Auchter of KY. A sister Lorraine Barg of FL. 14 Grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 10:00 A.M. in St. Augustine Church, Canterbury. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Brooklyn. Visiting hours at Dougherty Bros. Funeral Home 595 Norwich Rd. Plainfield are Friday 5-8 P.M. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Augustine Church, Rt. 14, Canterbury, CT. 06331.
