In Memory of Earle Leonard Bassett

Earle passed away on November 18, 2014 at the age of 90. Born in Hanford on November 7, 1924 to Archibald and Vera Bassett, he moved to Fresno in 1930. He served in the United States Army Air Corps from 1943-1945 as a radio operator/ mechanic/ gunner on a B-17 in the 8th Air Force stationed in Great Britain. He flew 35 combat missions over France and Germany and was awarded the Air Medal with six oak leaf clusters and four battle stars.
Earle graduated in 1948 from Fresno State College where he was hired by the Fresno State College Association. He was promoted to Controller/Assistant General Manager in 1951 and in 1961 he was appointed Director of Related Educational Activities. He was actively involved in the construction of the Keats-Campus building (former bookstore), the College Union, the Satellite College Union, and the Kennel Bookstore. Earle retired in 1987 from California State University?Fresno after 40 years as General Manager of the Association, the Foundation and the Ag Foundation.
Earle has been active in Wesley United Methodist Church where he has served as Treasurer, a member of the choir, a member of the Fresno Wesley Foundation Board of Directors, and many committees of the church. He also was a volunteer for United Cerebral Palsy and Children's Hospital of Central California.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Dorothy, brother Leslie and his wife Anita, son Steve and his wife Vicki, Marjorie Miller and her husband Wallace, Linda Kiefer and her husband Craig, Deborah Cover and her husband Gary, 19 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
Remembrances may be made to Wesley Methodist Church, 1343 E. Barstow, Fresno, CA 93710; American Cancer Society, 2222 W. Shaw Ave, Suite 201, Fresno, CA 93711; or the charity of your choice.
Visitation will be held on Friday, November 21, 2014, at Stephens & Bean Chapel from 2:00-7:00 PM.
Memorial Service to be at Wesley United Methodist Church 1343 E. Barstow, Fresno, 93710 on November 22, 2014 at 11:00a.m.

A Memorial Service will be held at Wesley United Methodist Church, 1343 E. Barstow, Fresno on Saturday, November 22, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. Remembrances may be made to Wesley Methodist Church; American Cancer Society; or the charity of your choice.
