      Bassett
      CHARLOTTE - Mr. Dean Franklin Bassett, 78, died Tuesday, May 30, 2000, at his home in Charlotte. Born in Charlotte on Jan. 20, 1922, Mr. Bassett was a son of the late Albert Franklin Bassett and Janie Garrison Bassett. He graduated from Berryhill High School and served in the 15th U.S. Air Force 485th Bomb Group during World War II. Mr. Bassett, a retired dairy farmer, volunteer fireman and City of Charlotte employee, was a lifelong member of Central Steele Creek Presbyterian Church and served as deacon, elder, elder emeritus and Sunday-school class president. He was also a member of the Steele Creek Athletic Association, Steele Creek American Legion Post No. 221 and volunteered with Loaves and Fishes, and Boy Scouts of America. Survivors include his daughter, Jo Beth Melton and her husband, Randy; two grandsons, Trent and Cameron Melton, all of Lewisville;; a sister, Carrie Bassett Shelton of Southern Pines; and a brother, John S. Bassett and wife Helen of Deltona, Fla. Mr. Bassett was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Katherine Bassett; two sisters, Charlee Bassett Freeman and Mary Bassett Casper; and a brother, Harvey H. Bassett. A funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Friday, June 2, at Central Steele Creek Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Dr. James R.M. Young officiating. Interment will be in Pleasant Hill Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Special thanks are expressed to Hospice of Charlotte and to two special ladies his caregivers, Mary White and Mae Grier. Memorials may be made to Central Steele Creek Presbyterian Church, P.O.
