John Bassett
DELTONA - John S. Bassett, 85, of Hanover Avenue, who retired as a self-employed residential construction sales agent, died Friday at home. Mr. Bassett, who served as a lieutenant and test pilot in the Navy, moved to this area in 1927 from his native Charlotte, N.C. He enjoyed fishing, flying and gardening. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Helen; three sons, Greg, High Springs, Albert, Charlotte, and John, Huntersville, N.C.; a sister, Carrie Shelton, Maryland; four grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Deltona Memorial, Orange City, is in charge.

John Stewart Bassett
Mr. Bassett, 85, a native of Charlotte, died Friday, February 17 at his home in Deltona, Florida. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, February 21, 2006, at Deltona United Church of Christ in Deltona, Florida.
Born July 20, 1920, in Charlotte, he was the son of late Albert Franklin and Janie Garrison Bassett. He graduated from Berryhill High School and attended Lenoir-Ryne College and graduated from Navy Flight School at Corpus Christi, Texas. He was a U.S. Navy test pilot during World War II. After his discharge, he returned to Charlotte where he was self-employed. He retired in 1972 and moved to Deltona, FL. He enjoyed fishing, flying, and gardening.
Mr. Bassett is survived by his wife of 59 years, Helen, of Deltona, Florida; sons Albert Stewart Bassett of Charlotte, John David Bassett of Huntersville, NC, and Gregory Bassett of High Springs, Florida; sister Carrie Bassett Shelton of Davidsonville, MD; and four grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his sisters Charlee Bassett Freeman and Mary Bassett Casper and his brothers Dean Franklin Bassett and Harvey Hunter Bassett.
