In 1852 they moved to Worcester, Massachusetts and in 1857 to Berlin, Massachusetts. William Bassett was selectman, town clerk and town treasurer in Richmond, Cheshire County, New Hampshire. He was a selectman, assessor and school committeeman in Berlin, Massachusetts. In 1864 he was a senator in the General Court for the Worcester east district.
