- Slim Bassett dies in Oregon
Former Jackson resident Grover Cleveland ?Slim? Bassett died in Medford, Ore., on April 17. He was 90.
Mr. Bassett was born at Union, Miss., on Nov. 4, 1892. In 1916 Mr. Bassett came into Jackson Hole via the Berry Creek freight road from St. Anthony?s, Idaho. During the 53 years he spent in Teton County, Mr. Bassett worked for the McBrides, lee Lucas and on the Hatchet Ranch.
Eventually, Mr. Bassett homesteaded 60 acres on Aspen Drive below Snow King Mountain. In 1936 he bought the Granite (Hot Springs) Ranch. He sold the ranch to Dr. Donald Macleod in 1965, but continued to live in a cabin on the property until 1969 when he moved to Oregon.
In 1920 he married Mabel Fuller at Driggs, Idaho. She preceded him in death on July 15, 1965.
Survivors include one son, Grover J. Bassett in Applegate, ore.; a step-daughter, Margaret O. Bell in Salt Lake City; a stepson, Arthur J. Rutherford in Virginia; a sister, Annie Hanson in Louisiana; six grandchildren, and several great grandchildren.
Funeral services are at 2 p.m. today at the LDS Chapel in Jackson. Burial follows at South Park Cemetery.

Services Held For Mabel Bassett, Resident for 60 Yrs.
Funeral services were held at the LDS church Monday afternoon for Mrs. Mabel Bassett, who died on July 15 at Bountiful, Utah. Bishop Marion Morrill was in charge, and burial was in the South Park cemetery.
Pallbearers were Dr. D. G. Macleod, Bob Nethercott, Paul Imeson, Grant Hagen, Weldon Richardson and Byron Goe.
Mrs. Bassett was a real pioneer of Jackso Hole, having lived here since 1906. She and her husband ?Slim? operated a ranch at Granite for many years and their friendliness and hospitality was known by all.
