Martin R. Bessette, 79, of Antwerp, Ohio, a mechanic for Greyhound Bus Lines, died Wednesday, November 28, 2001, at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne. The Burlington, Vermont, native attended Antwerp United Methodist Church and was a World War II U.S. Army veteran. Surviving are his wife, Betty; a son, Martin R. Jr. of Milton, Vermont; stepsons Bob Cross of Antwerp, Scott Cross of Springboro, and Kenny Cross of Harper's Ferry, West Virginia; daughters Carol McGrath of Oxford, Mississippi, and Christine Cousineau of Burlington, Vermont; stepdaughters Mary Brown of Antwerp, Kathy Cross of Auburn, California, and Julie Reece of Defiance; a brother, Kenneth of Williston, Vermont; ten grandchildren; 16 stepgrandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Phyllis, a son, William, two brothers and three sisters. Services are 11 a.m. Saturday at Antwerp United Methodist Church, Antwerp, with calling one hour before services. Calling is also from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today at Dooley Funeral Home, Antwerp.
