      Retired Railroad Man, James E. Bassett, Dies
      James Edward Bassett, 70, retired, resident of Dallas for forty-eight years and for more than forty years an employee of the Texas & Pacific Railroad, died Monday at his home, 5607 Goodwin.
      Mr. Bassett came to Dallas from Mount Sterling, Ky. his first railroad work in Dallas was in the auditing department. Later he was transferred to the superintendent's office where for a number of years he was in charge of purchasing. He was an elder of the Colonial Presbyterian Church.
      Surviving him are three sons, H.E. and L.E. Bassett of Dallas and the Rev. Allen Bassett, Presbyterian missionary at Bangkok, Siam, and three daughters, Mrs. Madson B. Adams, Miss Addie Bassett and Miss Lucy Cage Bassett, all of Dallas.
      Funeral services will be conducted at 4 p.m. Tuesday at the Colonial Presbyterian Church, Forest and Wendelken, with the Rev. L.L. McCutchen, pastor, officiating. Interment will be in Grove Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers, Dr. Rufus Whitis, George L. Crofford, H.W. Burr, Cecil McCutchen, Robert W. Sheegog and S.E. Rhodes.
