Mrs. George Bassett
The funeral of Mrs. Ida Griffith Bassett, widow of the late George Bassett of Coopers Plains, N.Y., was held at 2 o?clock on Friday afternoon from the Coopers Baptist church, the Rev. C.J. Grabb, pastor of the Painted Post Presbyterian church officiating. Burial was in Coopers Plains in the family plot.
Mrs. Bassett was born in Pike, Wyoming County in November, 1858. She taught school in both Painted Post and Coopers where she met George Bassett, and became his wife in 1893. The couple made their home in Coopers until the death of Mr. Bassett five years ago. Since that time Mrs. Bassett mad her home with her son, James W. Bassett of 49 Ward Ave., Staten Island, where she died on Tuesday morning, Jan. 14, following a lingering illness.
A woman of high principles and sweet disposition she was loved by all who knew her. Both Mr. and Mrs. Bassett have many friends in Pike, as well as in Corning and vicinity. Mrs. Bassett was a member of the D.A.R. Corning chapter, in which organization she was an active member while able to be about. She spent her summers in Coopers since the death of her husband. A member of the Painted Post Presbyterian church, she was always interested in the various organizations connected with it, and was Sunday school teacher for several years.
She is survived by one brother, A.G. Griffith of Pike, three sons James W., at whose home she died, Robert of Bristol, Tenn., and Attorney Clark Bassett, of Tonawanda, N.Y., one daughter, Mrs. J. Donahue of Jamaica, Long Island.
