Former Cohoes Man Killed In Accident in Louisiana
A former Cohoes man who retired seven years ago as superintendent of electrical engineering for United States Steel Co. in Caracas, Venzuela, was accidentally killed Sunday at his home in Covington, La.
Joseph G. Bessette was working underneath a truck when it slipped from the jack and crushed him to death. He was a graduate of Cohoes High School and a former employe of General Electric Co.
Three of his survivors – all sisters – reside in the Capital District. They are Mrs. Joseph LeCuyer and Mrs. Amedee Veve, both of Cohoes, and Mrs. Rudolph Delude of Waterford.
Before working for United States Stell, Mr. Bessette was an electrical engineer for Patino Tin Mines in Bolivia. He was one of the eight Americans held hostage by rioting miners during a rebellion.
Since 1958, Mr. Bessette and his family had lived in Covington where he operated an electrical repair shop.
