Henry H. Bessette, 74, Ex-Polls Offical, Dies
Henry H. Bessette, 74, former commissioner of elections in Albany County died last night in the home of his son, Henry Z. Bessette, 33 Carlton Ave. Cohoes.
Born in St. Luke’s, Que, Mr. Bessette had lived in Cohoes for the past 56 years. He was election commissioner from 1944 until 1952, and also served as alderman and Republican committeeman in Cohoes’ Third Ward for many years.
A printer by trade, Mr. Bessette was foreman in the composing room of the old Cohoes American for 30 years and a former secretary of the Cohoes Chapel of the International Typographical Union. He also operated an insurance business with his son at 52 Congress St., Cohoes.
He was husband of the late Mina Dozois Bessette. Besides his son, he is survived by a sister, Mrs. Joseph Galipeau and four grandchildren, all of Cohoes.
Funeral services will be conducted at 9:30 a.m. Monday in A. G. Boivin’s Sons Funeral Home, 70 Congress St., Cohoes, and at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph’s Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
