Irvin Bass, was avid golfer and Reds Fan

Irvin Bass was born to Anna (Herman) Bass and Louis Bass in Cincinnati, Ohio, and grew up on Windham Avenue in Avondale, where he quickly gained neighborhood notoriety playing baseball with a group of boys who were nearly 10 years older.

He capitalized on this natural ability and enjoyed years of camaraderie and success as American Legion national finalist and a state champion at Hughes High School.

He then attended the University of Cincinnati and eventually earned a master?s degree in geology. Those years are also fondly remembered as the period in which he went on a blind date with his eventual wife JoAnn Widerschein, and played baseball on the same team as future hall-of-famer Sandy Koufax.

Upon graduation he married JoAnn in 1956, and then entered the field of petroleum geology, working for oil companies in locales such as Tyler, Texas; Tulsa, Oklahoma; Denver, Colorado; Calgary, Alberta, Canada; Blind River, Ontario, Canada; and somewhere in Alaska.

Upon his return to Cincinnati in 1964 with wife JoAnn and now two children, he entered the stock brokerage business, where he worked for numerous firms. During a 30-year career, he served hundreds of loyal customers and managed scores of grateful brokers. Over the years he was affectionately nicknamed ?Coach? by the employees he led both in the office, and onto the softball field.

Irv was an avid golfer and lifelong fan of the Cincinnati Reds. He enjoyed gardening and the art classes he took at the JCC and at The Seasons. During retirement he volunteered at the Deer Park Library for nearly 10 years, earning an award from the city for his outstanding and devoted service.

Irvin is fondly remembered by all his family and friends as sweet, kind, supportive, and inspirational, with a boyish good humor, and an innately good soul.
