- At the time of his marriage, Absalom was a bachelor boiler maker, son of Thomas Bassett, a gardener from
Gloucestershire.
Absalom and family moved to No. 18 Kingswell Street where he started
an engineering business in 1859.
Harry and Thomas Bassett, the two oldest sons of Absalom, became
interested in the cycling trade and went abroad to Australia. In his Will,
Absalom had the following: "to each of my sons Harry White Birdsall Bassett
and Tom Absalom Bassett, now residing at Melbourne Australia, the sum of 50
pounds".

Death Of An Old Northampton Tradesman
We regret to announce the death of Mr. Absalom Bassett, of the well-known firm of Bassett and Sons, boilermakers, Kingswell-street, Northampton. It took place suddently this morning from a combination of bronchitis and chronic gout. He was aged 62, and had been in business locally since 1859.
