TURNERS FALLS - Richard A. Bessette, 68, of Montague Street, died Saturday, Feb. 14, 2015, at the Buckley Health Care Center in Greenfield. His wife, family and friends, who had been with him since day one, were by his side.
A memorial service will be held at a date and time to be announced in the spring. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Franklin County Sheriff's Office Regional Dog Shelter, 10 Sandy Lane, Turners Falls, MA 01376, or to the Dakin Humane Society, P.O. Box 6307, Springfield, MA 01101.

Died: Saturday, February 14, 2015
Turners Falls- Richard A. Bessette, 68, of Montague Street died Saturday 2/14/15 at the Buckley Health Care Center in Greenfield. His wife, family and friends (who had been with him since day one) were by his side.
He was born in Montague on September 14, 1946, the son of Russell C. and was predeceased by his mother, Helen B. (Rogalski) Bessette, on August 17, 1994. Dick was a graduate of Greenfield High School Class of 1964 and he attended Art School in Boston.
Dick served in the Massachusetts Army National Guard Co. B 2nd Bn. (Mech) 104th Infantry and the Army Reserve of Chicopee, MA.
Dick was a halfter for Lunt Silversmith until his disability retirement. Prior to that, he worked for the B & M Railroad, on the rail crew, as a brakeman, for a total of 17 years.
He loved animals and would always switch stations if there was news or commercials of abused or homeless animals. He especially loved his two cats, Callie and Shadow, whom he missed and always asked about. Dick?s sister in law surprised him and brought them to visit a few times, which he so enjoyed.
For many years, Dick enjoyed going to country concerts at Indian Ranch, Oldies shows and meeting and taking some photos with them. He also enjoyed occasional trips to Foxwoods, hoping to strike it rich, and while there, taking in concerts as well. Through the years of retirement, he went to breakfast almost every morning, making friends at the Shady Glen and the Four Leaf which he always looked forward to. One hobby he could never get enough of was needling his very dedicated mother in law about the ?Red (flops) Sox?.
Besides his beloved wife of nearly 46 years, Pamela (Brunelle) Bessette, Dick leaves his father, Russell Bessette of Port Orange, FL, sister in laws, brother in laws, several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Kostanski Funeral Home, 1 Kostanski Square, Turners Falls, with the Rev. Stanley Aksamit officiating. Burial will follow at St. Anne's Cemetery in Turners Falls. A calling hour will be held Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.
