Leo P. Bessette
WATERFORD -- Leo P. Bessette, 84, formerly of Waterford, died at Our Lady of Hope Residence, June 20, 2001 after a short illness. He was born and educated in Waterford and was the son of the late Charles and Albertine Bouchard Bessette. Mr. Bessette was an insurance agent for Metropolitan Life Insurance Company for over 25 years. Mr. Bessette was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church, Cohoes and a member of its choir. He belonged to the Cohoes Barbershoppers and was director of Cohoes Barberette's for several years. He was a former member of the Waterford Lions Club. For 18 years, he introduced young men to the joy of camping. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Marietta M. Amyot Bessette, Latham; father of Peter C. Bessette and his wife, Barbara of Clifton Park, Judith A. Stidnick and her husband, Ronald of Clifton Park, Susan B. Sullivan and her husband, Roger of Waterford, Thomas M. Bessette and his wife, Kim of Delmar and the late Robert W. Bessette; brother of Albert M. Bessette of Malta and the late Harvey J. Bessette; grandfather of Ronald P. Stidnick, Jr. of Clifton Park and AZ, Elizabeth Hurtado of Atlanta, GA, Nicole Kuftiak of Pomona, NY, Christopher Bessette of Clifton Park and Jenna I. Bessette of Delmar, NY; great-grandfather of Kiersten M. Stidnick and Tiger J. Stidnick, both of AZ; also survived by several nieces and nephews and several grandnieces and nephews. Funeral, 10:30 a.m., Friday at Our Lady of Hope Residence, 1 Jeanne Jugan Lane, Latham, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Waterford. Relatives and friends may call at Our Lady of Hope Residence on Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. Contributions may be made in Leo's memory to Our Lady of Hope Residence, 1 Jeanne Jugan Lane, Latham, NY 12110. LATHAM – Leo P. Bessette, 84, formerly of Waterford, died Wednesday at Our Lady of Hope Residence after a short illness.
Mr. Bessette was born and educated in Waterford.
He was an insurance agent for the Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. for more than 25 years.
Mr. Bessette was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Church in Cohoes and a member of its choir.
He was a member of the Cohoes Barbershoppers and was director of the Cohoes Barbarettes for several years. Mr. Bessette was a former member of the Waterford Lions Club.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Marietta Amyot Bessette; two sons, Peter C. Bessette of Clifton Park and Thomas M. Bessette of Delmar; two daughters, Judith A. Stidnick of Clifton Park and Susan B. Sullivan of Waterford; a brother, Albert M. Bessette of Malta; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Our Lady of Hope Residence, 1 Jeanne Jugan Lane. Calling hours will be from 5 this afternoon until 8 tonight at the residence.
Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Waterford.
