  Notes	South Coast Today, 1997 Rev. Ernest Narcisse Bessette FAIRHAVEN – The Rev. Ernest Narcisse Bessette, a priest in the Fall River Diocese for 59 years, died Thursday, July 17, 1997 at Our Lady’s Haven Nursing Home after a long illness. He was 86. Born in New Bedford, Father Bessette was a son of the late Noe and Ida (Coderre) Bessette. Rev. Bessette was ordained June 11, 1938. His first assignment was at Our Lady of the Isle on Nantucket, however, the first Mass he officiated was at St. Anthony. He served at churches in Attleboro, St. Anne in New Bedford and Notre Dame in Fall River, after which he became administrator of the former Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church in New Bedford. He became the first pastor of Our Lady of Fatima Church, New Bedford, in 1966, then was pastor of the former St. Hyacinth Church, New Bedford and St. Joseph, Attleboro, from where he retired in 1988. He graduated from St. Anthony Grammar School, St. Anne’s Academy in Swaton, Vt., St. Michael’s College in Wisooski Park, Vt., and St. Mary’s Seminary in Baltimore. Survovirs include his brother, Robert Bessette of Florida, two sisters, Doris Roy of Acushent and Alice Belanger of New Bedford. The Most Rev. Sean O’Malley will officiate his funeral 11 a.m. Monday at St. Anthony Church in New Bedford. Arrangements are by the Rock Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford.
