Miss Elizabeth Bassett Will Be Married Friday To J.M. Kern
Mr. and Mrs. J.H. Bassett, 217 South First street, announce the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter, Miss Elizabeth T. Bassett and Joseph N. Kern of this city. The wedding will be solemnized at 2 o?clock Saturday afternoon, June 21, at the home of the bride?s parents, Rev. T. N. Ewing, pastor of First Methodist church, officiating.
Martin Bassett, brother of the bride, will attend the groom and Miss Christine Kern, sister of the groom, will act as bridesmaid. Only the immediate relatives will be present at the ceremony.
The couple will leave on a short wedding trip and returning, will reside in this city.
Miss Bassett was formerly employed in the editorial department of The State Journal. She is a graduate of the Charleston high school in the class of ?16.
Mr. Kern is connect3ed with the Romie Fields Repair shop.

Elizabeth Kern
Mrs. Elizabeth T. Kern, 85, of 2800 W. Lawrence Ave., formerly of 700 S. Park Ave. died at 10:40 a.m. Wednesday at St. John?s Hospital.
Born in Arcola, Mrs. Kern was the daughter of Jack and Margaret Degnan Bassett. She married Joseph N. Kern in 1919. A resident of Springfield for 65 years, Mrs. Kern was formerly employed at Myers Brothers.
Mrs. Kern was a member of the Douglas Avenue United Methodist Church.
Surviving are her husband, Joseph N.; one son, John J. of Springfield; several nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Staab Funeral Home, the Rev. Charles Hanson officiating. Burial will be Oak Ridge Cemetery.
