Powell, Martha Age 97, of Breckenridge, passed away, Monday, September 24, 2018 at the Schnepp Senior Care and Rehab Center in St. Louis. Martha was born May 31, 1921 in Wheeler Township, the daughter of Harvey and Mary (Bassett) Smith. She graduated from Breckenridge High School with the class of 1939 as Valedictorian. After high school, she attended Central State Teachers College and graduated in 1941. She worked for 5 years teaching country school and then spent 38 years working with B & W as a secretary. Martha married Myron Powell on January 1, 1952 at the Breckenridge First Congregational Church. She was a member of the Breckenridge First Congregational Church and the Breckenridge/Wheeler and Gratiot County Historical and Genealogical Societies. Martha was always excited to learn, especially Genealogy. She is survived by 10 grandchildren and several great, great great and great great great grandchildren. Also a sister Fannie Taylor. Martha was preceded in death by her parents, husband, infant daughter Patricia Lou Powell, daughters Geneva Johnson, Phyllis Harnick, son Hershel Powell, grandson Roger Powell, brothers Richard and Bob Smith and sister Adeline Wilhelm. Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 27, 2018 at 11 am at the Breckenridge First Congregational Church with Pastor Maggie Wallin officiating. Interment will be in Ridgelawn Cemetery, Breckenridge. Visitation will be held Wednesday, September 26, 2018 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm at the Lux and Whiting Funeral Chapel, Breckenridge.
