Helen Marguerite Bassett

Helen Marguerite Bassett, affectionately known as ?Moggie? to family and friends, was born September 29, 1939, in Buckatunna, MS to Earl and Victoria West. Helen passed away on September 1, 2026, just short of her 87th birthday in Brenham, TX where she has resided since December 2019.
Helen moved with her family to New Ulm, TX in 1949 during which she attended school in Sealy, Columbus, and Bellville. In 1957, she married the late Charles Mohr in Bellville, TX. Her first union bore three children who were her pride and joy. In May of 1971, Helen married Levis M. Bassett, where her family grew to include two grown and loved stepchildren. She resided in Luling, TX for half a century.
Blessed with a lively spirit, Helen shared her fiery and feisty personality with all who knew her. She loved listening to gospel music, gambling, trips to MS to visit family and playing games at home with friends. Before her eyesight began to fail, she was a highly accomplished knitter, known for her exceptional talent and beautiful pieces. Helen?s caregiving legacy is defined by decades of unwavering dedication to family and friends, leaving a lasting impact through her acts of love and support.
Helen is survived by her 3 children, Victor and Kim Mohr of Harper, TX, Van and Brenda Mohr of Cedar Creek, TX, and Vicki and Bruce Morlock of Bellville, TX; and her stepchildren, Carmen Bassett Gidley of Alvarado, TX and Delane Bassett and wife Patricia of Luling, TX. She was Nana to grandchildren Tori Webb, Brandon Morlock and wife Jamie, Andrew Mohr and wife Savannah, Alex Mohr, and Aaron Mohr; step-grandchildren, Jennifer Mayes and husband John, Ashley Hartzog and husband Terry, Ryan Bassett and wife Laura, and Kelsey Bassett. She is also survived by 5 great-grandchildren and 8 step-great-grandchildren, two siblings, Duke West and Gladys Rae Matthews and their spouses, a dear sister-in-law, Leona West and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family whom she adored.
She was preceded in death by her husband Levis M. Bassett, siblings, O. E. (Buddy) West, an infant sister, Carolyn, and Tommy West; grandsons, Tom Webb IV and Adam Mohr; and step-grandson Ron Rossberg Jr.
Honorary Pallbearers are her grandsons and nephews Ernest West, Earl Wayne West, Orren West Jr. and Jeff Huebner.
There will be a visitation held Tuesday September 8, 2026 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at O?Bannon Funeral Home. Services will be held Wednesday September 9, 2026 at 2:00 PM at the McNeil Baptist Church with Brother Rick Perkins officiating.

**A second memorial service for Helen will be held in the on-site chapel at Silversage Assisted Living in Brenham on September 29, 2026, at 11:00 AM.
