Lucille M. (Bessette) Caputo (Picture included)
Lucille M. (Bessette) Caputo, 87, of Springfield and formerly of Birchland Avenue died Thursday, April 2, 2015 at East Longmeadow Skilled Nursing Center. Lucille, a daughter of the late Armand and Augustine (Gagnon) Bessette was born in West Springfield on April 12, 1927. Raised in West Springfield she graduated from West Springfield High School. Lucille was employed for 10 years at the Gilbert & Barker Credit Union and then for the Steiger?s Department Store for 10 years. Lucille had resided in Springfield for the past 57 years and was a communicant of St. Catherine of Siena Church. She was a member of the Springfield Garden Club, the Springfield Garden Group, East Longmeadow Senior Center French Club, and for the past 15 years practiced Tai-Chi. In addition to her parents she was predeceased by a brother, George Bessette and her sisters, Claire Wellspeak and Simone Boyle. She is survived her husband Joseph Caputo; two sons, Alan M. Cassady and his wife Marsha of Wilbraham and Kevin J. Caputo and his wife Kenia of Hampden; three daughters, Judith A. Clarke and her husband Stephen of Woodstock, CT, Joyce S. Carreira of South Hadley, and Denise C. Caputo of Springfield; six grandchildren, Shawn, Ray, Joe, Tara, Heather, and Greg; 10 great grandchildren; a special cousin, Pauline Lautenbach of Manchester, CT; along with several nieces and nephews. Visiting hours for Lucille will be held on Wednesday, April 8, 2015 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Sampson?s, Chapel of the Acres Funeral Home 21 Tinkham Road, Springfield. Her funeral will be held on Thursday, April 9, 2015 at 10 a.m. at Sampson?s followed by the Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11:30 a.m. in St. Catherine of Siena Church, 1023 Parker Street, Springfield. Rites of Committal and Interment will follow in the Chapel of the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, Agawam. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in Lucille?s memory may be made to the American Heart Association, 20 Speen Street, Framingham, MA 01701.
