BESSETTE, George A. George A. Bessette, 85, passed away January 16, 2010 surrounded by his loving family. He was born Dec. 23, 1924 to the late Armand and Augustine Bessette. George owned and operated the Friendly Barber Shop of West Springfield for over 60 years. He was past president of the Ramapogue Historical Society as well as the F.O.R.M. Club, served on the Town of W. Spfld. Finance Committee and Capital Planning Board, was a member of St. Louis de France Church as a lector and an active member of the church's social club and theatrical guild. He was also a member of the Chipaways Wood Carving Club at the W. Springfield Senior Center. George leaves behind to cherish his memory his beloved wife of 63 years, Gabrielle (Maynard); devoted children, Paul and his wife Colleen, Denis and his wife Patti, Pierre and his wife Brenda and Louise Bacon-Ogden and her husband Dave of Eureka, CA; his loving ninegrandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and his caring sister Lucille Caputo of Springfield. He was predeceased by sisters Claire Wellspeak and Simone Boyle. Funeral services will be held Wedmesdau at 9 a.m. from the Toomey-O'Brien Funeral Home, 1043 Westfield St., followed by a 10 a.m. Liturgy of Christian Burial at St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Church, 495 Main St., W. Springfield, MA 01089. Burial will be at a later date. Calling hours will be held Tuesday from 4 - 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the Baystate VNA & Hospice, P.O. Box 9058, 50 Maple St., Springfield, MA 01102-9058.
