Rufus W. Bass
OAKLAND, City, July 24.-(Special)-Rufus W. Bass, 79, died at 12:30 o?clock this afternoon at his home here. He suffered a paralytic stroke.
Surviving are his wife, Louisa; two sons, Arvel Bass of Evansville and Willard Bass of Dayton, Ky.; a daughter, Mrs. Opal Eaton of Winslow; three step-children, Mrs. William Minnis of Petersburg and Willis and Ensor Hayes of Evansville; a brother, Newit Bass of Stendal and a sister, Mrs. Cecora Keaton of Evansville.
Funeral services will be held at 12:15 o?clock Sunday afternoon at the home with continued services at 1 o?clock at the Bethel church in Pike county. Rev. C.E. Barrett officiating. Burial will be in Barrett cemetery in Pike county.
They body will be removed this morning from the Boone funeral home to the residence.
Probate of Will in Open Court
State of Indiana, Gibson County
Be it known that on July 28, 1942, in Vacation, 1942, of the Gibson Circuit Court in Indiana, held at the Court House, in the City of Princeton, in said County and State, before the Honorable Lawrence Hubbartd, Clerk of said Court, the following proceedings, among other, were had to wit:
In Re, Probate Will of Rufus W. Bass, Deceased
The last Will and Testament of Rufus W. Bass, late of Gibson County, in the State of Indiana, having been presented to the Clerk for probate and record, thereupon Opha Blacketer, one of the subscribing witnesses to said will, appeared before the clerk, and was duly sworn according to law, and her testimony therein was taken and reduced to writing and filed, and it appearing to the Clerk, that Rufus W. Bass died on the 24th day of July, 1942, leaving an estate to be administered in Gibson County, Indiana, from the testimony so taken, that the said Will of Rufus W. Bass, deceased, was duly executed and attested at the request of the testator, and in his presence, and in the presence of all the witnesses thereto, and at the time of executing the same, the testator was of full age and of sound mind and memory, and not under any coercion or restraint, and Clerk now admits the said will to probate and orders the same in the office of the Clerk of this Court, as provided by law.
Which said Will is in the words and figures following, to wit:
LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT
I, Rufus W. Bass of Oakland City, Indiana, being of sound and disposing mind and memory, do make, declare and publish this my last will and testament, and do hereby revoke any and all former wills by me made.
First ? I direct that all my just and lawful debts be first paid out of my estate.
Second ? I give and devise unto Louisa Bass, my beloved wife, all my property, both real and personal, to be and remain hers during her natural life, to use and enjoy and dispose of for her personal support and care as she may desire, to sell and convey by fee simple title any or all of the real estate of which I may die seized and use the proceeds therefrom for her personal support and car as she may desire, and after her death, all that remains undisposed of for her personal support and care as aforesaid, I give and devise unto our son, Willard A. Bassett absolutely.
Third ? In the event that the said Willard A. Bass, our son, should die prior to the death of the said Louisa, his mother, he being without children surviving him, I give and devise all the property remaining after the death of my said wife and undisposed of by her as provided in item 2 of this will, unto the following names persons, towit: A two thirds part thereof unto my two children by a former marriage, namely, Orville A. Bass and Opal L. Eaton, share and share alike, and the remaining one third part thereof unto the children of Louisa Bass, my said wife, by former marriages, namely, William McGowan Minnis, Willis A. Hayes, and Franklin E. Hayes, share and share alike.
