LEADER OF WOMEN A SUICIDE
Mrs. Scott of Lexington, KY., Shoots
Herself While Depressed.
Special to The New York Times, 22 Mar 1904
LEXINGTON, Ky., March 21. - Mrs. Lillie Bassett Scott, widow of Dr. Scott, and daughter of Squire Bassett, President of the Fayette National Bank, committed suicide at her residence here this afternoon. Mrs. Scott had been in bad health for several months, suffering from insomnia, which left her in a greatly depressed mental condition, and it was while thus suffering she shot herself with a revolver. She was one of the most prominent women in the State, being President of the Woman's Club of Central Kentucky, an earnest church worker, and was considered one of the most beautiful women in this city. She leaves two daughters, Misses Elizabeth and Jane Scott, both of whom are members of the exclusive set.
