He was born in this village in the house now occupied by Moses Tuttle, Gouverneur Street, April 13, 1943. He was the only son of Elijah and Harriet Rice Bassett. On Oct. 23, 1866, he w married to Miss Mina Hubbard who survives him, besides one son, Arthur, his mother and one sister, Mrs. Flora Bassett Payson, wife of the Rev. James M. Payson of this village.
