Policeman Turns In Star To Knapp
Patrolman Elmer Bassett Decides to Return to Factory Work.
Patrolman Elmer Bassett, a son of Alderman Joseph Bassett of the Sixth ward, who has served on the police department for several months, turned in his star to Police Chief L.A. Knapp yesterday morning and announced his resignation and retirement from the police force. Mr. Bassett will return to his old job at the Brunswick-Balke-Collender company, having made up his mind that working there is preferable to chasing up and down Muskegon streets on wintry nights.
Police Chief Knapp expressed profound regret at Bassett’s resignation. Other patrolmen doubled up last night. A new appointee is already being lined up and will probably be announced Monday, if his nomination is satisfactory to the police committee.
