Bassett, aged 79, died Sunday noon at the home of his adopted sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Pierre, 438 East Fourteenth street, after a long illness due to the weakness of old age. Mr. Bassett had been a resident of Alton about 25 years. His wife died five years ago. He leaves three sons A.E. Bassett, R.E. Bassett and William C. Bassett. The funeral will be held tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock from the home and services will be conducted by Rev. Simeon Hussey. Burial will be private. Besides his adopted sister Mr. Bassett leaves a brother S.C. Bassett, of Alton. Alton Telegraph 22 Apr 1912.
