Passed away on Father's Day, June 19, 2016 from Lung Cancer and COPD.
Ron was born and raised in Elmsford, NY, and graduated from Alexander Hamilton High School. Ron was an accomplished singer, songwriter, musician, and showman from the age of 4. Most known as the lead singer of an oldies group, The Crests (Sixteen Candles was a well known hit) after Johnny Maestro. His renditions were unforgettable. Ron's love for music took him all over the country for many years singing and performing for countless audiences until he retired from the road and opened up his own business, Buggies Pest Control in Croton-on-Hudson, NY. Although he retired from the road, Ron still sang for local venues and even recorded one last album, "Off The Road," shortly after being diagnosed with cancer. He was survived by his two daughters, Laureen Bassett -28- of Wappingers Falls, NY and fiancé Mark Frisenda, and Ashley Bassett -26- of Cold Spring, NY, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Ron has chosen to donate his body to science and to be cremated. The research facility is called MedCure. They will help many to study and to learn all they can about the human body, especially about cancer. This was Ron's way of helping as many people as he possibly could, even in death. He was well known for his kindness, generosity, and loving soul. Since the research facility takes almost 8 weeks to send his ashes back to the family, they have decided to wait for his return in order to carry out his further wishes to have his ashes scattered at his favorite spot along the Hudson River on an old oak tree at Senasqua Park in Croton-on-Hudson, NY. There, they will have a memorial service along with a "Celebration of Life" after a mass at Our Lady of MT. Carmel Church in Elmsford, NY.
