Dear Sir:
With return of the questionaires attached to yours of January, 22nd,
you will note that I am not able to furnish very much information as to the
History of the Bassett family of Galveston.
However was pleased to have received your above mentioned letter and
indeed sorry that we were not able to become better acquainted while you were
here on your visit with the Rotary Club. And can assure you it would have been
a pleasure to have made your acquaintance and to have had you for my guest.
Sorry indeed that I am not able to furnish full information on the
attached questionares. But you will note that due to my Father's Mother and
Father having seperated during the early life of my Father, And my Fath
being cast out on the world at an early age to care for himself, Made h
dislike to talk very much of his past or his Parents and the only information
we were ever to learn was patched together through conversation over ma
years.
Not until the year 1900 during the Great Storm at Galveston, Which
know doubt you have heard of, Did we know that his Father had died in
Springville, Utah several years prior to 1900, And that he had an Aunt, Mrs.
Limon S. Wood living at Springville, Utah.
About January, 1900, Father, Mother, Myself and two brothers and a
sister went to live with the Woods Family at Springville, Utah and while there
found that his Father became sick in Helena, Montana and after a long journey
to Springville died there and is now Buried in the springville cemeter
If there is any information other than I have furnished, will be more
than glad to hear from you and will be glad to give all the information I am
able to obtain. Sorry indeed that I did not have the pleasure of talking
personally with you while you were in Galveston, As it would have been much
better to have gone into details about the Bassett's at Galvesto
Thanking you for the inquiry and hoping that the information as best
furnished will be of some assistance to you, With an extended invitation for a
visit from you if at anytime you are in the Oleander City of Galveston, Texas.

Grandfather's name: Solon Bassett, died at Springville, Utah.
Due to my Fathers, Mother and Father seperating when he was a boy about the
age of 12 years, Am unable to shed much light on Grand Parents, As my Father
did not speak very much of his past, Due to the seperation of his Mother and
Father. In fact he would only go so far back as when this happened and as how
he was cast adrift in the world at the age of 16 years after having spe
fours with an Aunt in Memphis, Tenn. From whom he ran away at the age of 16
years and roamed the world until settling in Galveston some time in the 1880
years. Married here and stayed Galveston until his death year, 1912.
Father's Name: Oliver Howard Bassett, born 1857 in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Mother's Name: Martha Mattie Bassett
Married 1 Sep 1882 in Galveston, Texas.
Oliver died 4 Jun 1912 in Galveston, Texas.
Martha died 6 Feb 1932 in Galveston, Texas.
Martha was born 17 Mar 1866 in Sabine Pass, Texas, daughter of Patrick Murphy.
Father's only Brother Deceased Prior to time of His Father and Mothers
separation at which time my Father was a boy of 12 years of age at Cincinnati,
Ohio. His Mother married again to a Mr. Wait and had two Boys and a Girl, I do
not know of there where abouts or if they are living or not.

Oliver Howard Bassett, birth year 1884 September, Galveston, Texas now resides
at 1270 Harrit St. Beaumont, Texas.
Mrs. Fred C. Schulte, Sister, birth about 1892, Month not known now resided at
Orange, Texas.
John Arthur Bassett, born 24 Aug 1886 in Galveston, Texas, married Katherine
Welch on 19 Apr 1919 in Galveston, Texas. She was the daughter of Warren
Henery Welch and Alice Walsh, born 3 Nov 1885 in Galveston, Texas. They had no
children as of 1935.
