Timothy Leary (Picture Included)
LEARY, TIMOTHY J. 72, of Austin Farm Road, Exeter, RI, died peacefully on May 24, 2011 at the Kent County Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Bette (Gardiner) Crossen-Leary. Born in Fall River MA, on July 29, 1938, he was the son of the late Francis J. and Dreilia V. (Bessette) Leary. Tim graduated from Durfee High School with the class of 1957. He served on the USS Saratoga in the United States Navy <http://www.legacy.com/memorial-sites/navy/?personid=151300709&affiliateID=519> from 1957 until 1961. He was employed as a Service Technician for Bay State Gas Company for 28 years before his retirement in 1997. He also, owned and operated the Leary Burial Vault Company in Tiverton for several years. He owned and operated the f/v Cathy Ann and the f/v Patty B out of Westport, MA. Tim was an avid race car fan and driver and a member of the Atlantic Coast Old Timers Auto Racing Club. He raced the 1946 Arlen Kurtis Kraft Alpha Midget from 2002 until 2010 and placed first at the Canaan and Waterford raceways and received numerous trophies throughout New England and New York. Besides his wife, he will be sadly missed by his children; Deborah Phillips and her husband Peter of East Taunton, MA, Timothy J. Leary also of East Taunton and Christopher J. Leary and his wife Rachelle of Westport, MA. He was the loving grandfather of Michelle and Benjamin Phillips of East Taunton, Bryan and David Leary also of East Taunton , Maeve, Cameron, Dane, Kendall Leary all of Westport. He was the stepfather of William and Linda Crossen of Richmond, RI, David and Charlene Crossen of Exeter and Linda and George White of Charlestown, RI. He also leaves Bette's grandchildren and great grandchildren and one niece and two nephews. He was the brother of the late Francis P. Leary. There will be calling hours Friday evening from 5-8 PM. The funeral service will be held on Saturday at 10:00 AM at the S.R. Avery Funeral Home, corner of Main and Bank Streets, Hope Valley, RI. Burial will be at the Wood River Cemetery, Richmond, RI.
