  Notes	The Lewiston Daily Sun, Maine, Tuesday, 12 February 1918 Man Killed At Canton William Bassett Fatally Injured When Pinned Under Load Lumber Canton, Feb. 11.-A fatal accident occurred at Gilbertville at about 11 A.M. today, which resulted in the death of William Bassett. He was engaged in hauling boards from the sawmill of Alonzo G. Rich of Canton Point to Gilbertville station. When nearing the bridge, crossing the Androscoggin river, the sled cut out of the road and the load tipped over, pinning Mr. Bassett beneath. Two teams were behind and the drivers succeeded in extricating the injured man and took him to the Gilbertville station. Dr. Frank W. Morse was immediately summoned and found that Mr. Bassett?s chest was crushed, several ribs fractured and his left arm broken. He died about 15 minutes after the physician arrived without regaining consciousness. Mr. Bassett?s brother, Edgar Bassett of Livermore, was also working for Mr. Rich and took the remains in charge. Mr. Bassett was born in Livermore and was a son of the late Charles Bassett and Susan Bryant Bassett, natives of Turner. His age was 56 years. He is survived by his brother, Edgar Bassett, and also another brother, Laforest Bassett of Auburn, and a sister, Mrs. Curtis Capen of Jay.
