Edward Lewis True, only son of Lewis P. and Adeline (Pierce) True, was born Everett, then South Malden, Massachusetts, July 28, 1852. He attended the public and high schools of South Malden, the latter for two years, after which he pursued a course at Comers College, Boston. For a few years he was a merchant in Malden, after which he went to Chicago, remaining from 1880 to 1884. Since he was conducted a small farm, but devotes the greater part of his time to the oversight of his real estate interests. Mr. True married, December 28, 1886, Miss Mary Abbie Bassett, born in Lovell, Maine, December 20, 1854, daughter of Alanson Crossman and Judith Johnson (Hutchins) Bassett, the former a native of Bartlett, New Hampshire, and the latter of Stowe, Maine. The children of this marriage were: Seth C. Bassett, who married Anna Ophelia Rugg and now lives in Haverhill, Massachusetts, and Mary Abbie Bassett, who became the wife of Edward Lewis True. Alanson C. Bassett married (second) Abby Hanson, of Dover, New Hampshire; no issue. The father of Alanson C. Bassett was Joseph Bassett, who lived in Lovell, Maine, and whose children were: James, Joseph, John, Seth, Thomas, Alanson Crossman, William, Belinda, Lydia, Anna, Lucy, and two other children whose names are not known. Mr. and Mrs. True have no children.
