Augustus Noyes French
Augustus Noyes French, son of Washington and Mary (Henley) French, was born 21 June, 1845, at Norway, Maine. He received his early education in the public schools of Albany, Maine, and pursued academic studies at the Norway Liberal Institute. He began the study of medicine with Dr. A.M. Peables, and attended three courses of lectures at the Medical School of Maine, where he received his degree in 1871. The same year, he settled in practice at Lovell, Maine, remaining there until August, 1887, when he removed to Norway. Here he continued in active and successful practice till his sudden death of heart disease, 30 January, 1908. He was a member of the Knights of Pythias and prominent in the Masonic Order, having attained to the thirty-second degree.
Dr. French married, first, 1 January 1875, Belinda T. Bassett, who died 10 October, 1877; and, second, 20 June, 1879, Nellie E. Fox, who survives him with two of their three children, Mrs. Lutie Mae Tubbs of Haverhill, Mass., and Miss Eva Myrt French of Norway.
