    Notes 
    • Samuel served as a Corporal in Company "I" of the 1st Regiment of
      Wisconsin Heavy Artillery Volunteers, enrolled 26 Oct 1864 at Berlin,
      Wisconsin for the term of one year, was mustered into the military service of
      the United States on the 26th day of October, 1864, at Madison, Wis. Corporal
      June 7, 1865. Mustered out with Company on the 26th day of June 1865 at
      Washington, D.C. The records further show that said soldier when enlisted was
      16 years of age, single, had blue eyes, sandy hair, fair complexion, was 5
      feet 6 inches in height and by occupation a clerk.
      Samuel shows in the Chicago city directory from 1867 through 1895.
