Lela May (Bass) Tate
Services for Lela May (Bass) Tate, 97, of Tyler, are scheduled for Friday, Aug. 10, 2007, at 10 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Grcsham with the Rev. Roy F. Thoene officiating. Interment will follow at the Flint Cemetery under direction of Lloyd James Funeral Home, Tyler.
The family will receive friends Thursday, Aug. 9. 2007, from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mrs. Tate died Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2007, in Whitehouse. She was born Oct. 3, 1909, in Smith County to the late Willie D. and Betty C. (Rawlins) Bass.
She was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Gresham where she taught Sunday school in the Children's Division for many years. She looked forward to Thursday nights and playing 42 at the church with the SONSHINE group. She also enjoyed sewing and was known for the numerous projects she created for members of her family and close friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Tate on Sept. 14, 1981; her son. Billy Joe Tate on June 29, 1998; her daughter, Violet Marie (Tate) McFarland-Barnes on April 29, 2006; and her brother, George Cecil Bass on Feb. 1, 1968.
She was a loving wife, mother and "Nanny."
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Cecil Edward and Marilyn Tate of Flint; daughter and son-in-law, Portia and Lindley Welch of Poynor; grandsons, Craig McFarland of Tyler, Kevin Tate of Tyler, Keith E. Tate of Flint, Forrest Welch of Athens, Troy Tate of Flint, Damon Welch of Poynor; granddaughters, Dixie West of Sugar Land; Pamela Milliron of Gilmer, Kimberly Anderson of Flint, Tammy Edwards of Oklahoma City, Okla., Karen Colston of Tyler, Misty Jacobs of Tyler, and Valerie Ramsey of Whitehouse; daughter-in-law, Ethelene Tate of Flint; 22 great-grandchildren; and one great- great-grandchild due in October.
Pallbearers are Craig McFarland, Kevin Tate, Keith E. Tate, Forrest Welch, Troy Tate and Damon Welch.
