Sharyn Leigh Bass Crockett, 56, of Richmond, passed away Tuesday, November 16, 2004 after a prolonged illness in which she exhibited extraordinary bravery, tenacity, resilience and humor. She was very generous with her time in helping other patients she encountered in treatment. Sharyn was born in Richmond on October 17, 1948 to Carolyn and Barney Bass. She graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1966 and earned a bachelor of arts degree in education from Virginia Commonwealth University in 1970. Subsequently, she earned a master's degree in counseling. After teaching for five years and having two sons, she became a real estate agent. She served on the Board of the Arthritis Foundation and she volunteered at the Children's Hospital and the Richmond Cancer Association. She is survived by her husband, William Davey Crockett; her two sons, Getty Andrew Rothenberg and William Kelly Crockett; her parents, Carolyn and Barney Bass; her sister, Paula Bass Giberson and her husband, Kenneth; her brother, Robert Lebo Bass and his wife, Sheryl; three nieces, Jessica and Kimberly Bass and Sophia Bass Giberson; and a nephew, Isaac Bass Giberson. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, November 17, 2004 (today) in Bliley Funeral Homes' Central Chapel, 3801 Augusta Avenue. Interment will follow in Richmond Beth El Cemetery at Forest Lawn. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made in Sharyn's memory to Bon Secours Hospice, who were an invaluable source of comfort and aid to her last months. The family would like to thank Dr. David Trent and Dr. Theodore Chung and their staffs for their devotion and loving care for the past ten and a half years. A special thank you goes out to Dr. Vernon Sylvest whose healing energy supported Sharyn throughout her journey.
