      Death of Ev. M. Bass

Attorney Ev. M. Bass died at the Parker Hospital in Columbia, at 8 o?clock Saturday morning.
Mr. Bass became seriously ill Wednesday night. At about midnight he went to the home of his physician, Dr. M.D. Lewis, who was not long in discovering that his friend and patient was in a critical condition. Dr. Lewis had Mr. Bass removed to the Parker Hospital at once, where he remained unconscious until the end came Saturday morning. His death was due to a small tumor which had formed on the brain. Burial took place at Salem Baptist church Sunday afternoon under the auspices of the Masonic fraternity.
Ev. M. Bass will be greatly missed from Columbia and Boone county. As a friend he was ever true; as a man he was honest and honorable. Liberal to the extreme, ever willing to share his bed and his las quarter with a true friend. Ev. Bass was a noble man at heart ? possessed of those qualities of manhood that ever brought around him friends. Quick to resent an insult, and the man did not live who could bluff or frighten Ev. Bass.
The writer and Ev. M. Bass have been friends for more than twenty years and we know of his manly qualities; we know that he was true as steel at all times and under any and all circumstances.
When the cold clods of earth hid from view the casket that held the remains of Ev. M. Bass then was shut out from this world of trials and tribulations the remains of a many who was worthy of greater praise than selfish mankind had given him. How far better would it be to bestow kindly acts, cheerful words and the hand of friendship to the living. The dead don?t need it.
Deceased was born on a farm twelve miles south of Columbia fifty-six years ago and was the son of the late Eli Bass, at one time the wealthiest and best known farmer and trader in Central Missouri.
