Norma (nee Logan) Bassett
August 4, 1932 ? July 25, 2025
Peacefully, on Friday, July 25, 2025, at St. Joseph's Hospital at the age of 92. Beloved wife of the late George. Cherished mother of the late Carolyn (Andrew Goodman). Also predeceased by siblings, Elizabeth Scott (Kenneth); and brother, Hugh Logan (Marie). Norma was born in east-end Toronto and raised in a home that instilled in her a love of books and music, and encouraged her boundless curiosity. She attended Riverdale Collegiate and went on to attend Normal School. Early adulthood required Norma to work several office jobs. A stint as a teacher in Northern Ontario preceded adventures traveling in Europe prior to marriage. With George, she settled in Etobicoke, lovingly raising Carolyn. She was an active member of the church, a staunch member of the Richard III society, an avid stamp collector, and maker of exquisite needlepoint crafts. Despite her bookish nature, she had a wide social circle and enjoyed connecting with informal stories on one hand, and serious history on the other. Not always one to showcase the profound intellect that lurked inside, Norma aimed to cheer you up with "Loganesque" humour. Her disarming nature formed many lifelong bonds. In memory of Norma, please consider donating to funds supporting undergraduate students at a small university, such as Trent or UNB. Visitation will be held at Royal York Road United Church, 851 Royal York Rd., Etobicoke, on Sunday, August 10th, from 12:15 ? 1:00 p.m. The service will begin at 1 p.m., with a reception to follow. Online condolences may be made through www.turnerporter.ca.
