ROCK ISLAND-Bobbie G. Bassett Sr., 82, of Rock Island, passed away Wednesday August 24, 2022 at UPH Trinity, Rock Island.
Funeral services will be 1:00pm Saturday September 3, 2022 at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island. Visitation will be Friday from 4:00-7:00pm at the funeral home. Inurnment will be at a later date in Chippiannock Cemetery, Rock Island. Memorials may be left to the family.
Bobbie was born on January 30, 1940 in Paris, Missouri, the son of Matthew and Rosie (Gossett) Bassett. He married Ethel Brooks on November 1, 1964 in Dorchester, Massachusetts.
He retired as a supervisor from French & Hecht, Davenport. He later had his own business at the Quad City Airport as a shoe shiner for 34 years.
Bobbie loved watching Horse races, tennis, baseball, playing pool, listening to music, cooking & to barbecue.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Ethel; children, Gina (Romel) Hurd, Bobbie Bassett Jr., Gino Bassett, Regina Bassett, Dino Bassett, Margaret Bassett, Rico Bassett, Mario Bassett, Robert Bassett, Courtney Bassett, Chasey Bassett; 23 grandchildren; 62 great grandchildren; 1 great great-grandchild; siblings, Vercella Davis, Harry Bassett, Eugene Bassett, Alden Bassett; special friends, Scottie Butler, Booker Edgerson and Udell Watts; a host of nieces, nephews and extended family.
He was preceded in death by his Father Matthew Bassett, Mother Rosie (Gossett) Bassett , Sisters Arlene Mack and Beatrice Hill; Daughter Danita Bassett; Great Grandchildren Heaven Hurd and Ashton Duke Bassett.
