Prominent Harrisville Man Dies After Extended Illness
Harrisville, January 21 - George Craig Bassette, 56, former Northern New York lumberman and for the past ten years proprietor of a service station at Harrisville, died at 5 p.m. Friday at his home. Death followed an extended illness. He had been in poor health since he underwent an operation in April.
He was born in Wilbur, Ontario, February 4, 1882, a son of the late John and Jeanne Craig Bassette. When a young man he came to this country with his parents and settled in the vicinity of Harrisville.
For many years he was engaged with his fathers and brothers, Ross Bassette, John Bassette, both of Harrisville, and the late Lloyd Bassette in lumber operations throughout northern New York. For a time they directed their lumber operations from Star Lake and vicinity.
