- T.C. Bass, Of Vero, Died In St. Augustine
T.C. Bass, of Vero, died in St. Augustine on Wednesday, the 20th inst., after a short illness. As stated in the last issue of THE TRIBUNE he was not thought at first to be seriously ill, but after a short time at the hospital he lapsed into a state of insensibility and passed away Wednesday morning. Interment was made in the cemetery at St. Augustine.
Mr. Bass was one of the pioneers of the county, settling on a homestead at Vero twenty years. After a few years residence at that place he engaged in the merchandising business at Fort Pierce for several years. During the Spanish American war he resided in Miami, returning to Vero at the close of the war and remaining there until his death.
Mr. Bass served in the Civil war and had one of his ears partly shot away in battle. His wife died several years ago. His adopted son, W.J. Bass, was with him at the time of his death. Mr. Bass owned two hundred acres of land in Vero, besides a large tract west of Fort Pierce. He was seventy years old, and had many friends among the pioneers of this section who knew him as a man of honesty and sobriety.
