Death Roll
Mrs. Betsy Kingsbury
Betsy Kingsbury died at the home of her son, George Kingsbury, at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 14, in the ninety-seventy year of her age. Mrs. Kingsbury had been confined to her bed for the last three weeks by growing feebleness and failed gradually until death gently came.
The deceased was born in the town of Independence, Feb. 23, 1828, the daughter of John Chandler and Martha St. John Bassett.
She was the last survivor of 14 children, six older and seven younger than herself. At the age of 20 she was united in marriage to William Walker Kingsbury. For a few years they lived in Black Creek and then moved to the farm in Rushford where the rest of Mrs. Kingsbury?s life was passed, until three years ago last October when she came to Cuba. Mr. Kingsbury died nearly 33 years since.
Three sons were born to Mrs. Kingsbury, of whom two survive ? George H., above mentioned, and William C. of Friendship. The eldest, Frank D. died some twenty years ago. She also leaves six grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Kingsbury united with the Seventh Day Baptist church of Independence in her girlhood, and has always remained a faithful and consistent member, all her life observing the Sabbath according to the faith of that denomination.
Although her health was feeble Mrs. Kingsbury?s memory of former times remained excellent to the end and only a few days before her death she recited for one of the family a long poem which she committed to memory years ago.
The funeral will take place Sunday at 2 o?clock at the home of Spring street, with burial at Hardys Corners.
