Bassett Will Wed Authoress
Engagement of Cambridge Medical Man, 60 Years Old,
and Miss Grace M. Fiske, 28, Surprise to Their Frien
The announcement of the forthcoming marriage of Edwin Francis Bassett
and Miss Grace Mabel Fiske of Cambridge, whose "intention" paper was taken out
at the City Hall yesterday, was a big surprise to all except a few intimate
friends, who did not know even of their engagement.
Mr. Bassett is a well known medical practitioner. He is 60 years of
age, and was put down as a confirmed bachelor. For about two years he h
lived at 10 Bigelow Street, but previous to that had his office and residence
in an apartment house on Massachusetts Avenue, between Lee and Clinton
Streets. Previous to coming to Cambridge he spent some time in California. He
is a veteran of the civil war.
His companion for many years was his mother and it was common talk
among his acquaintances that it was his intention not to marry as long as she
lived. A few months ago Mrs. Bassett died.
Miss Fiske the intended bride is 28 years of age and is an author and
lecturer as well as an accomplished musician. She is a native of Sale, Or.,
the daughter of Eugene R. and Charlotte Scott Fiske. With her mother she came
to live at Mr. Bassett's and their acquaintance ripened into love. They will
be married tonight.
