Mr. Bassett came to Silver City in 1910, and in 1914 in association with his
brothers, the late Neely Bassett and Ira Bassett, and their sisters, Miss Mary
Bassett, acquired the Ford Agencies in Deming, Santa Rita and Silver City. The
Silver City Agency was sold to Ray Harris in 1945, and the Deming Agency was
disposed of in 1947. The Santa Rita Agency was closed about the same time. Mr.
Bassett is a past master of the Silver City Lodge No. 8 AF & AM. Survivors
other than the widow of the deceased and their daughter, include three
grandchildren and five great grandchildren; and two sisters of Silver City,
Miss Mary Bassett and Mrs. Gertrude Warrick. Rev. Kenneth E. Ford, pastor of
the First Methodist Church, officiated at the funeral service which was held
at 2 p.m. at the chapel of Curtis Mortuary. Silver City Lodge No. 8 AF & AM
was in charge of the graveside services in Memory Lane Cemetery.
