Death Of Martin Bassett
Martin F. Bassett, who died at his home Tuesday morning, September 9, 1913, was born November 23rd 1826 at Bovina, Delaware Co. N.Y.
He was the son of Francis and Mary Cushing Bassett and was the fifth of a family of eight and the last to pass away.
In 1836 the family moved to Branch Co., Michigan, where he lived until early manhood.
For a few years he was in business in Buffalo, N.Y., but on account of his health came to Illinois in 1851 and soon after bought land and engaged in farming.
February 1st, 1855 he was united in marriage with Emma L. Wamsley who passed away but fifteen days ago. They lived together on the farm until the fall of 1869 when they moved to the home in which they both passed away, having lived together over fifty-eight years.
In 1857 he united with the Methodist church in which he was a devoted worker to the time of his death, serving on the official board for years, also as class leader and worker in the Sunday school.
He was one of those of whom it could be truthfully said, ?He walked with God.? He was conscientious to a fault. In every act of his life he stopped to consider, ?is this right?, and it can be truly said of him, ?Blessed are the death that die in the Lord.?
Funeral services will be held at the Methodist church, Thursday, at 2 p.m.
