The house was built in 1857 by Thomas Bassett, a grocer. It is an
example of transitional Greek Revival with Italianate styles such as the roof
overhang, and bay windows. The building was bequeathed to the Federation of
Women's Clubs by Mr. Bassett's daughter, Florence in 1926.
