Mrs. Betsey Bassett, widow of the late Henry L. Bassett, and at one
time a resident of Whippleville, but who removed with her husband to the West
in 1882, died at her home in Rock Creek, Minn., on Tuesday, Feb. 11th, aged 64
years. Prior to their removal to the West the family was well and favorably
known in this section, Mr. Bassett being a son of the late Wm. Bassett, who
lived north of this village near the Constable line. Many old friends will be
grieved to learn of Mrs. Bassett’s death. Speaking of her, The Pine Poker, of
Pine City, Minn., says: “Three children survive her – John W. Bassett, Henry
E. Bassett and Isabel Bassett. Mrs. Bassett was an earnest and sincere
Christian and an active and energetic member of the Rock Creek M.E. church, and
her works will live long after her. The funeral was held from the Pine City
M.E. church, Rev. F.H. Feetham, of Rush City, holding the services. Her
remains were interred in Birchwood cemetery beside her husband, H.L. Bassett,
who passed away July 13, 1902.”
