Dear Son,
You wished to know the dates of mine and your Mother's ages etc. I
will give it to you: I was born the year 1793 the third day of Dec. I was born
six miles S.E. of Albany the capitol of the State of N.Y. My Father moved from
there to Ontario County, N.Y. the west part of the State: my Father liv
there till the year 1812. I went in to the U.S. Army in Ontario County in Dec.
1813. I was twenty years old when I went into the Army. I was marched from
Ontario County to the 11 Mile Creek, near Buffalo: I was there stationed until
my time expired in March 1814. My Father moved from Ontario County to
Cincinnati, Ohio. I was maried the 15th day of August 1818. I was maried to
Darcus Basset: moved from Cincinatti to Kentucky in the year 1819. I moved
from Kentucky to Indiana in the year 1830. I lived in Indiana 25 year
moved from Indiana to Missouri in 1854. I lived in Missouri 10 years. I left
Missouri on the 19th day of April 1864. I steared my course for Orego
landed in the Grand Round Valley in Oregon in Sept. 20, 1864. I left Grand
Round Valley in June 14th 1865. I moved to the Willamette Valley: I landed in
the Valley July 3d 1865. I lived in the Willamette Valley 10 years. I then
moved to the Rogue River Valley, here I am in Rogue River Valley Jackson Co.
Oregon.
My Wife was born march 24th, 1799. SHe was born in the Mohawk Valley
in the State of N.Y. Her father moved from there to CIncinatti, Ohio. He
landed there a few days after I did; there I met my Wife. I am now 85 years old
the third day of Dec. 1878. My wife will be 80 years old the 24th day of March
1879. Matilda, Caroline they was born in Kentucky. Avery was born in
Cincinatti, Ohio. Jack, Frank & Eli, Jack I want to know what has become of
Avery; I want to know where he lives and how he is getting along. George
received a letter from Aunt Aggy about three weeks ago, she lay sick with the
dropsy: she was helpless. She wrote Ely was going to get Married in two weeks
to Magga Cribbens. I don't take the day book, I don't feel able to take it I
wish I was. Eli promised to get it for me but he did not. Mother has been very
sick, we did not expect her to live, we had to lift her out and in the bed;
she is better now but she is not able to go about: I don't think she will ever
be again only to walk a little about the house, she is ver frail. Write as
soon as you get this; Wish you were here to eat New Years dinner with me, I
would kill a turkey if you was here Caroline.
